he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
I am flawed. I struggle. I hurt and worry. I think I have all of the answers. I'm wrong. I need protection.
This is where Proverbs 30:5 comes in. In this verse, I am reminded that not only is God flawless and unfailing, but so is His word. How often is it that when we turn to Scripture, it's exactly what you needed to hear, whether you're willing to admit it or not? For me, it happens all the time. No matter what I'm going through, God's word is relevant.
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech. Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. Don't get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.
Proverbs 4:23-27 (NLT)
Such truth! For someone like me, transitioning into a sea of new after such hurt and loss, it's vital for me to be protected, to guard my heart. In the above verse, I am reminded to do just that. It's the guide to moving on and bettering my life that I had been looking for and thought didn't exist. Of course it exists! It's the book that I turn to for everything else in my life. The Bible. It's God's Word. He's telling me to guard my heart and to stay on the safe path, the path that follows Him and His Word.
I'm reminded that through all of my flaws and bitterness and worries, I AM PROTECTED. I'm protected by my Savior and Redeemer, who has never left my side and never will. He will always be there for me, guiding me to follow His will and protecting me from evil. Wrapped in His Word, I am safe. And when I read and study His Word, I feel safe. I am happier and encouraged that whatever storm I'm facing in the moment, it shall be weathered, and the sun will shine brighter on the other side. In His Word, I am joyous and reminded that life is breathtakingly beautiful. Even in the darkest of days, my protector carries me.
