just call me "The Expert"

It's true, I'm an expert. Say what?!

Yes, yes I am. And proud of it, too!

I know you're asking yourself, "What the heck could she be an expert at?! Sucking at life? Making not so good decisions? On how to NOT be a morning person? Pretend writing? Starting things and never finishing them? On how to waste five days in one simple step? Making orange juice? I think she's lying."

While I'm pretty good at all of those things (except the orange juice thing, I just hit up HEB for my Simply Orange fix), there is one thing in particular that I'm especially good at, thus making me an expert. Procrastinating.

Dun, dun, dunnnn!

You can't say you're surprised - well, if you know me, anyway. If you don't, now you know one thing about me, congratulations! I am probably the world's worst procrastinator (although I'm pretty proud of the fact that I'm starting this post on Tuesday and it wasn't due to go live until today [friday]). I will put off pretty much anything until the absolute last possible minute. Especially packing. I have no idea why I do it, but if I'm scheduled to go somewhere and have to pack, I will not start until the night before. Hands down, without a fraction of a doubt, I won't do it. I know it's nerve-wrecking to be on a time crunch and what it's like to be praying you don't forget anything. Been there, done that, I'll do it again next time. It's just what I do, because I'm an expert! le duh. And for all of you non-experts out there (yes, I'm looking at YOU), I'm going to share five tips on how to improve on your procrastinating skills. Mmmmkay? :)

1. Do something else.
Even though you know that you need to pack for your trip in two days, do something else. That's right, do absolutely anything else except for what you need to be doing, which is packing, obviously. Allow yourself to get completely distracted until you forget that your trip is in less than 48 hours. It's all good, you'll get through it (because I'm teaching you how).

2. Make a list.
An essential part of procrastinating is list-making. Although I put off the actual packing, I do make a list (although, I put that off too until the last minute, of course) so that when the time comes to actually pack, I can try to be somewhat organized about it. Well, as organized as last-minute packing can be anyway.

3. Worry.
Another key element to procrastinating is worrying. You must worry about whether or not you're going to get it all done in time without forgetting anything. I know, you're thinking why the heck would I procrastinate in the first place if it's guaranteed to worry me?! The answer to that is simple: I'm an expert procrastinator. It's what I do.

4. Ignore the naysayers.
It's inevitable that people will continually remind you of all the things you have to do and repeatedly question if you remember your commitments. Politely reassure them that you're well aware of them and then continue on your road to procrastination. It's a fun ride!

5. Get it done!
Last, but not least, do it! On the night before or morning of, get to packing my friend! Shove it all in those bags and keep your fingers crossed you don't run out of time or leave something important behind. It happens, but it keeps life interesting and sparks your creativity when you have to get by without that one thing you left behind! So, seriously, go start packing. NOW!

5.1. Relish in getting it done.
Once you've completed your mission, relish in the feeling of accomplishment - that despite your procrastinating, it still got done, and quite well at that! YOU DID IT, and now you realize that you, too, can become an expert, and it's more fun than a boring, 'do-everything-the-second-you-find-time' kind of life. Who wants that?! Not this girl. This girl enjoys being an expert at this...this procrastinating lifestyle.

There you have it! 5(ish) tips on how to be a better procrastinator. Aren't you glad you're more informed than ever and can really jump on this bandwagon now? I am. :) It's great to have you on board!
