It’s the end of an era.
It’s no secret that I am a dedicated and loyal fan of Grey’s Anatomy, and have been for years and years! It all started in 2007, when my cousin lent me her copy of season one on DVD – I didn’t have cable at the time. And just like that, I was hooked!
I’ve had a love/hate relationship with Cristina’s character over the years, but that’s to be expected with a character such as hers. She’s passionate, brutal, honest, and does whatever it takes to get the job done.

You’ve just got to check out this article of 17 times we fell in love with Cristina Yang from E Online. Seriously priceless!

Last night was the official Farewell to Christina Yang, as she is no longer going to be on the show. Sandra Oh is ready for new challenges and journeys. I can’t blame her, but I still have no idea how Meredith is going to get along without her! But I’m not too worried, because Shonda Rhimes has a fantastic team of writers behind her and I know it’ll be nothing short of amazing! It won’t be the same without Cristina, but it won’t stop me from watching.

I’ve absolutely loved the relationship between Cristina and Meredith, and it’s the thing I’m going to miss most about Sandra’s character. I mean, she was her person.

So, the finale. I just loved it. And I’m so thankful that Shonda Rhimes didn’t just kill off her character. Although, I love that that’s what she had us all thinking when Cristina mentioned she had to go to the mall, and then there was an explosion at said mall. But alas, Cristina was fine and I’m glad the writers didn’t keep viewers in suspense for very long! Whew!

I honestly think it was a great farewell for Cristina Yang. She got to tie up all of her loose ends in Seattle and head to Germany to be successful. She got a happy ending. Thank you, Shonda, for giving her a happy ending! Before she left, though, we got to experience another great life lesson from Grey’s Anatomy: there is no endpoint in life. You don’t always feel ‘finished’, but you have to keep going.

I love that she needed Meredith to help her leave, that she couldn’t do it on her own. It gave us a glimpse into Cristina’s character one last time – the real and raw fear that she had upon leaving. And Meredith’s one liner was priceless: “What, do you need an ‘I love you’ or something? I love you!” Best goodbye ever between such dark and twisty friends! Love, love, love. And, Cristina got to tell Meredith to stop worshiping Derek. YES! Thank you! Someone had to say it…ugh! Cristina was a true friend to the end, telling Meredith how gifted and amazing she truly is. Talk about pulling on the heartstrings!

And Cristina and Owen’s goodbye? Quick and heartfelt, without a single word. A quick wave goodbye while Owen was in surgery, and she was gone. Poor Owen. He really loves her! And I’m glad we got to see a little between Cristina and Karev. They were part of the original group of interns, and I’m glad we weren’t left without a reunion between them! Cristina told Alex he was a great surgeon but also called him an imbecile. Totally fitting for those two! And a perfect goodbye between friends.

Overall, I was worried about the finale, seeing that the previous few episodes were a little anti-climactic. But, I wasn’t disappointed. I think it was the perfect goodbye for Cristina, and she got to live happily and not be killed off. We’ll see where next season will go, and I can’t wait!

Goodbye, Cristina Yang. Thank you for 10 great seasons!
