Every year, our small town church has its annual picnic…the St. John’s 4th of July Picnic. It’s pretty much a big deal! And for such a small community, it does pretty well. And this year, there were more people than EVER!
Included in attendance this year were our cousins visiting from Germany! Their visit was highly anticipated, and we had SO.MUCH.FUN! *To see their USA 2014 Travel blog, click here*
We ate delicious food (sauerkraut was definitely my favorite!), walked around, thought about bidding on a donkey, and laughed and laughed and laughed. After a while, though, it got hot. Like, scorching Texas heat, hot. So we all unanimously agreed to head to mom and dad’s for a while, since it was only about ten minutes down the road! I’m so glad we did! The laughter only continued.
It cooled down enough for us to enjoy a few hours on the back porch playing washers. We were even blessed with a small thunderstorm! The activities ranged from washer pitching, spider catching, popcorn eating, and laughing. Oh, the laughing!
We then headed back to the picnic for drinks, dancing, and fireworks!
Saturday, we slept in (thank goodness!) and then all pitched in to load up for our camping trip! We got to the lake only to deal with pouring rain for two hours…not the best start, but not the worst, either!
