Well, it sure is nice to be back here in this space! I don’t think I could even put into words how much I missed coming here and sharing my thoughts, feelings, emotions, life. But life took over and things changed…and that’s a story for another day. Maybe later this week! 🙂
I’M ENGAGED!
I looked into the several beaches around Charleston to make sure that we would be able to access and actually walk the beach like we wanted to after dark. I had heard that some of the beaches had very strict hours and fees so I wanted to avoid any disappointments. I discovered that Folly Beach was the best choice, so that’s what we went with. Cory and his parents had gone to that particular beach back in April and were pretty letdown – it was dirty and not so nice. However, we decided to risk it and just go for it on Saturday night. I’m always willing to give things a second chance, so that’s what we did. And I’m really obsessed with piers (I have no clue why – it’s weird haha), so we decided to walk the pier first and then head out down the beach with our flashlight. The pier was amazing! It’s the second longest pier on the east coast and it did not disappoint in any way. It has plenty of room, it wasn’t overcrowded, and the breeze off the ocean was amazing. It wasn’t a cool night by any means, but it wasn’t hot either, and that’s a huge win these days!
After walking the pier, we headed under the pier. Again, I don’t know why, but I’ve always wanted to be underneath a pier with the waves washing up over my feet and just take it all in. So, that’s what we did! It was awesome and relaxing and kind of loud with the waves echoing off the structure. I can’t really explain it (obviously, I’m doing a terrible job), but it was nice! Afterwards, we headed down the beach. Since we were at the main section of beach next to the pier, searching for seashells was pretty much out of the question. There were so many other people there and it’s a popular section of beach that had already been walked and picked through. However, we walked the beach anyway, and it was seriously so romantic! Carrying our shoes, holding hands, enjoying the breeze and sounds of the waves rolling in…bliss! At one point, Cory stopped and got down on one knee to start digging in the sand. When I asked what he was doing, he replied that he wanted to know if there were sand fleas at that particular beach. Umm, ok… ??? After digging a rather large hole, he concluded that there weren’t any and then headed off to the water to wash off the mud. I filled in the hole (because hello, it was dark and I definitely didn’t want someone walking along the beach and break their ankle in a hole – especially a hole dug in search for sand fleas haha!), and we continued down the beach.
Cory asked how I thought our date night was going. Umm, seriously? It was amazing! Serious quality time with him was just what I needed. It wasn’t just a quick dinner and then back home to go to bed. It was hours away from home and just being together. We had walked quite a ways when Cory then declared that he wanted to write in the sand. And yes, we are basically children that enjoy doing things like writing in the sand while at the beach lol. So, it wasn’t really abnormal. He made me stand right in front of him holding the flashlight while he got down and starting writing. He wrote, “I love u” and I was flattered. He really can be super sweet when he wants to be haha! I told him as much, and then he shifted and continued to write… “will you mar-” and I flipped out, repeatedly asking, “Are you serious?!” over and over. He finished what he was writing, “-ry me” and I was at a loss for words. Yes, I know. ME, with nothing to say! He reached in his pocket, pulled out a ring box, and asked, “Well, will you?” And I lost it! I said yes (of course!) and hugged and kissed MY FIANCE probably about a million times!
I was on cloud nine while we trekked back to the pier and ultimately my car. I called my parents to tell them the news and they were so happy for us! We then called Cory’s parents to share the news with them, who were equally as happy! And the calls continued: my brother, sister, friends.
Cory seriously did SO GOOD in every aspect (well, except one…). He FaceTimed my parents earlier in the week to talk to them and ask their approval of his proposing to me. He teamed up with my sister to pick out the most amazing engagement ring I’ve ever seen. He popped the question in a seriously romantic way/setting, and he got down on one knee. What more could a girl want?! Nothing, that’s what.
I am obsessed with this ring, to put it lightly. And it was seriously SO HARD to part with it yesterday for it to get sent off and be re-sized – that’s the one aspect he didn’t succeed in 100%. He didn’t quite get the size right even though he should’ve known, but it’s ok. He tried super hard and that’s what counts! And yes, I know it isn’t just about a “ring”, but hey, diamonds are a girl’s best friend, right?! It’s seriously spectacular and pictures just don’t do it justice. Obsessed, I tell ya.
And that’s how it all went down! It was a pretty spectacular weekend and I couldn’t he happier. And now, it’ll be wedding planning mode haha. We don’t have a date set yet (as it’s only been like 2 days since the proposal) but I’m hoping to soon!
I’m in love with “our story” and look forward to sharing it for years to come and to our kids and grandkids! I’m so unbelievably blessed and am one lucky girl.
