I read two very amazing books this month, and I’m so excited to share them! So, I’m jumping right in.
I love me some Emily Giffin, and I was pretty excited to read The One & Only this month! I honestly hadn’t heard too much about this one and didn’t read very many reviews, but I read that football was a main component and “small town” and I knew I’d like it. Little did I know that I’d LOVE it! I “read” this one as an audiobook this month (I finally jumped on the Audible train!!) and was obsessed. I wanted to listen to it all.the.time. It definitely is football-focused, but it didn’t bother me at all, also coming from a small town and surrounded by football. And I really found myself dying to know what happened in the end. And then I was sad when it actually ended because I wanted MORE! I gave this one 5 stars.
**SPOILER ALERT: do not read this paragraph if you don’t want part of the story ruined!**
Several of the reviews I did read prior to starting this book commented on how gross and wrong it was for Shay to have intimate feelings towards a man who was a father-figure during her entire life – her best friend’s father. This really sat with me and I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about it while reading the book. However, I was rooting for Shay and Coach the entire time! They definitely had a special connection and didn’t do anything “wrong”. I don’t know if it’s because I listened to this one and didn’t read it myself, but hearing the story unfold, I wanted them to find happiness together. Is it weird? Yes, of course. But you can’t help who you love and they definitely didn’t plan on having feelings for each other.
