Feeling the Love

January 8, 2016 in love

I’ve been so utterly overwhelmed lately by the love in my life. And by that, I mean Cory. Now, I don’t mean to brag (wait, YES I DO!), but he’s been exceptionally sweet and attentive lately and I’m just so unbelievably thankful. Seriously.

New relationships are fun and exciting, but they always reach a plateau when things get serious and you start living day-to-day with routine and real life and things aren’t all roses and rainbows all the time. Both of you begin to let your guard down and start showing each other your true self, not just the best version you want the other to see. You pick up on habits and it can be a real struggle to adjust to this. Cory and I didn’t really go through a “hard” time in transitioning to this content, living life together thing, but we’ve both had our moments, believe me. Tears have been shed. Angry words have been said. And some days have definitely been darker than others.

But I’m reminded, time and time again, of just how amazing and sweet he is. I’m a firm believer in “the little things” and he’s really picking up on that. He’s working on things between us, with himself (as am I), and we’re really doing well overall. And I honestly believe the reason we’re doing so unbelievably well and are so happy is because we’re both trying. It’s sad, but I don’t think I’ve ever had this in a relationship before. Not really. And to have my feelings and effort reciprocated has truly meant more to me than I could ever try to express in words.

A few things have stood out to me over the past week or so that I wanted to document and remember. Because again, “the little things”. I came home from spending New Year’s with my cousins to this card and roses. Now, I’m not going to put him on blast (anymore than I already am…sorry babe!) and share, but I genuinely teared up reading the contents of this card. His words could not have been any more sweet or perfect, and I will cherish them forever. He just reassures me in the best ways possible without me even having to ask or bring it up sometimes. And as much as he may try to hide or deny it, he’s got a pretty good sweet side, I must say! I’m a firm believer in that efforts don’t have to be extravagant or expensive. It’s the little ways that you can make your partner feel loved and cherished that count the most.

He also treated me to a morning sleeping in (bliss!) as he got up, took the dogs out, cooked, and brought me breakfast in bed. Like, legit breakfast in bed. Again, nothing super expensive or outrageous, but it was another act of love that just made me melt. I’m also absolutely obsessed with the way he talks to me and texts me throughout the day that he loves me. It’s not very often that I don’t have a huge smile on my face upon reading his texts at work. I know this should be normal and not a huge deal, but it is to me. IT’S A HUGE DEAL! I’ve never been treated in ways such as these and for Cory to really be tuning in and for us both to be really trying and to be doing so well, I’m blessed. Like, beyond blessed. Like, all the mushy, corny, romantic things blessed.

You can say I’ve definitely been feeling the love lately, and I am oh so thankful! Life, even the “boring” days and mundane routines, can be absolutely joyous and amazing when you’re with the right person that treats you well and makes you feel like the most amazing woman in the world. I’m lucky. I’m blessed. I’m oh so loved.
