Happy Halloween! I openly admitted my love for all things Disney and Disney Channel movies yesterday. And now here’s some evidence to back that up. Instead of getting all decked out in a Halloween costume that I’ve spent way too much time and/or money on coming up with, instead, I’ll be curled up on the couch with the lights out, candles burning, munching on some popcorn and indulging in some of my favorite Halloween movies! I don’t have anything against this holiday…if you go all out for it, great! I just don’t. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t been DVR’ing my favorite movies and saving them for tonight! I’m looking forward to it, and that’s all that matters to me.
Twitches (2005)
Two teen witches who were separated at birth and were adopted by two different families meet on their 21st birthday and must use their powers to save the world in which they were born, where their birth mother still lives.
Can I just say that I pretty much love anything with Tia and Tamara Mowry?! I watch this movie every year around Halloween. It’s so fun! It’s girly and magical and really sets the mood for Halloween!
Twitches Too (2007)
After using their powers to battle the forces of darkness, the sisters settle down to lead normal lives. However, the discovery that their biological father may not be dead, but residing in New York, causes confusion for the pair.
I’m glad they came back and did a second movie to the original Twitches. It wraps up the story line much better than leaving it as it was. And, it’s Tia and Tamara again, with two more years of experience, so you better believe it’s a good one!
Hocus Pocus (1993)
After three centuries, three witch sisters are resurrected in Salem Massachusetts on Halloween night, and it is up to two teen-agers, a young girl, and an immortal cat to put an end to the witches’ reign of terror once and for all.
I must take this moment to fully admit that I have never, ever seen this movie. *gasp!* I know. But I’ve heard nothing but great things about this one and it’s currently sitting on my DVR waiting for tonight. Maybe it’ll be another Halloween regular, you never know!
Halloweentown (1998) and Halloweentown II (2001)
Marnie, Dylan, and Sophie Piper have their first out of many adventures! On Halloween, while Marnie is arguing with her mother Gwen, the kids’ grandmother Aggie comes to visit. Aggie wants to start Marnie’s witch training before her 13th birthday or Marnie will lose her powers forever. But there is another reason for Aggie’s visit. Something dark & evil is growing in Halloweentown & Aggie wants help to defeat it. While Aggie & Gwen are arguing, Aggie uses magic which Marnie observes. After Aggie leaves to return to Halloweentown, Marnie, Dylan and, unknown to Marnie and Dylan, Sophie follow her onto the return bus. Soon afterwards, Gwen follows the children to Halloweentown. While there, Aggie & Gwen are attacked by the dark force in a movie theater. Marnie, Dylan & Sophie race to get the ingredients to activate Merlin’s Wand to stop the evil.
The Cromwell clan split their time between the real world and “Halloweentown”, but the son of an old rival threatens to make the latter “real” and the real world a place of monsters.
I honestly can’t tell you how many years I’ve been watching these movies. Another Disney Channel Original Movie, and I’m hooked. I look forward to the fun Cromwell clan year after year, and I’m glad that Disney Channel is now showing their sequels, too!
Halloweentown High (2004)
Marnie Piper prepares to begin a new school year in her new home. She asks the Halloweentown Witches’ Council to work toward openness between Halloweentown and the mortal world. She proposes to bring a group of Halloweentown students to her own high school in the mortal world.
I admit that this one wasn’t always on my radar…it’s just not as good as the other Halloweentown movies. It’s definitely grown on me and is currently recorded, but I may not watch this one…we’ll see how many movies I get through and what I’m feeling tonight. 🙂
Return to Halloweentown (2006)
By now, everyone knows Marnie Piper is a witch, so it comes as no surprise when she wins a full scholarship to prestigious Witch University in Halloweentown. Excited about learning alchemy and amulets, potions and portents, Marnie travels through the portal to become Witch U’s most famous coed. But everything is not what it seems. There’s a new school rule: no magic allowed!
This is probably my favorite of the Halloweentown movies, hands down! It’s fun to see Marnie embracing her powers and doing things on her own, as she’s now older and attending college. Add in girl drama and jealousy, and this movie is fantastic! It’s a must see for sure.
That’s seven movies I’ll be powering through tonight. Bring it on! I’m really looking forward to some ‘me’ time and not worrying about anyone else and what they want to do or where they want to go. Sounds perfect to me this year!
What are you doing for Halloween?
