And just like that, it’s June. May is officially in the rearview mirror and we’re now staring June in the face. Whoa. We’re seriously six months into this year already?! I just can’t believe it. Time is for real flying by.
Since life is a bit chaotic and crazy right now with Landon teaching me all the things and getting very little sleep, I’m going to try to stay on top of a few key things each month and see how it goes. So, each month I’m going to focus on a few goals that I want to try to accomplish or make progress on. I tackled this before and enjoyed tracking my progress and really focusing on a few things each month. I think it’s been a year since I last did it, and I do miss it! However, I’m also (planning on) giving myself a ton of grace as I get back into my monthly goal setting. Life with a newborn is unpredictable at best, so if something comes up or I fall short on a few things here and there, I’m going to do my best to not get down on myself. We’ll see how it goes…
1. Landon’s 2-month post and pictures.
I want to stay on top of taking pictures and posting about Landon every month at least for the first year. I look forward to having them to refer back to and to see his growth month after month! I almost failed on this for his first month, so I want to be more on top of it this time and try not to get swept up in all the bottles and laundry and baby crying going on.
2. Read three books.
I have been craving all.the.books. lately and I don’t know why! But I’m giving into said craving and am really going to try to read more this month. So instead of absently scrolling Facebook and Instagram a million times a day (and night!), I’m going to reach for a book instead. In the waiting room at the doctor’s office, in the car waiting to pick Landon up – I’m hoping to make good use of those extra “me” minutes that I need to start taking advantage of instead of wasting. Multi-tasking practice, y’all! You know, like feeding Landon in one arm with a book in my other hand. Wish me luck! 🙂 I’m also getting some “reading” in during my commute to work every day. 3-4 hours in a car per day is much more bearable with a juicy book being read to me! Also, it beats struggling with the radio every few minutes because they’re playing the same songs over and over and over for the millionth time.
3. Sort through mail and bills.
Can I just reiterate how completely overwhelming it is to have a baby? I can? Ok, thanks. Y’all, it’s crazy hard and super stressful! And also totally worth it all. However, several things have fallen to the wayside, and I’ve consistently found myself saying “I’ll do that later.” Well, never being in one place very long or knowing exactly what my schedule looks like each week, “later” never comes. And that’s changing this month (hopefully!). I have more than one (more than 3 probably) stack of mail that I need to really sort through and prioritize – some of which includes all of the medical bills I’m now receiving for my doctor’s appointments, Landon’s ER visit, my triage visit in January, and so on. I’ve handled most of them, but I need to match up the paper bills with those that I’ve already paid, etc. Basically, this mama needs to organize the hell out of it all. Prayers are appreciated :).
And that’s it! I have other things I want to accomplish as well, but I know better than to make this list a mile long because then it’ll never happen and I’ll just feel overwhelmed. Basically, this whole goal-setting thing would be pointless and ain’t nobody got time for that! I waste enough of my own time, so I’m looking to be more productive, not less. And with a baby, I need to take full advantage of what little “free time” I can get, so these goals will definitely help to keep me focused! Hallelujah.
