July Book Review

August 1, 2017 in books

I’m absolutely loving getting more reading in, and it’s 100% all thanks to Audible! I’m taking advantage of my commute every day and listening to an audio book. It’s been phenomenal and I’m excited to continue! I read five books in July, and they were all part of a series. This hardly ever happens – I’m usually not a “series” kind of reader, but I couldn’t help it! I absolutely loved the Boudreaux series and then jumped on board with the Billionaire Builders series. Let’s review!

Up first was Easy for Keeps by Kristen Proby. This was a novella about one of the main characters in a previous book’s bartender, Adam. He was a self-proclaimed bachelor for life in the previous books, and I was a bit disappointed in his story because it just seemed so “easy” for him to fall for Sarah. However, I absolutely LOVED Sarah and her daughter Haley! And I was also a fan of the action/mystery that was involved with Sarah’s work. It definitely added an extra element and was much appreciated. Overall, I liked this one and gave it three stars.

Easy Magic was the next book in the series – book number 5. It was Beau’s story and I was so excited to dive into it! Throughout the previous books, Beau was such a solid character and a total badass, so I couldn’t wait to see how his love life turned out. And then, I was a little disappointed. I didn’t dislike his story, but I just expected so much MORE from it. I also wasn’t a huge fan of the “magic” aspect of his love interest and it was hard to stay focused. However, I was determined to finish the book and I’m so glad I did! It definitely improved and I grew to love and accept Mallory by the end of it all. I did like the twists that Kristen Proby threw into Beau and Mallory’s relationship, though. Overall, it was good but not one of her best books. Three stars.

My next read was hands down my favorite of the month. Easy Nights – the 6th and final book of the Boudreaux series. It was published at the very end of June, so I was thrilled to catch it right at its release and not have to wait for it! Although, I can definitely tell why this one was a much anticipated addition to the series. Savannah and Ben had some kind of history that was always touched on but never explained throughout the series. So to finally get to their story, I had pretty high expectations, and Kristen Proby did not disappoint this time around! I was obsessed with Savannah and Ben’s love story and could not put this one down. Love, love, loved it! Five stars, easy. The Boudreaux family was definitely easy to love and hard to say goodbye to. Beautiful series that I’d absolutely recommend!

I took a reading hiatus while on vacation because I was just so busy enjoying some relaxation and quality time with my sweet family. But once we returned, I dove into this gem. Everywhere and Every Way by Jennifer Probst was a breath of fresh air, to be honest. I had never read any of her books, but I am now a huge fan of Probst! This was a light, romantic read that gave you much more than just a romance. Probst delivered a ton of behind the scenes action and it flowed nicely. The Pierce Brothers weren’t very close after the death of their mother, but fate brought them back together. And I’m so glad it did because this one was a knockout. Four stars because it was just so good!

My final read for July was book number 2 in the Billionaire Builders series. Any Time and Any Place was a huge hit for me! It focused on Dalton, the youngest brother of the Pierce empire, and the badass bartender that he’s drawn to, Raven. It was a sweet, sweet story of not giving in to temptation, doing things you told yourself you wouldn’t do, and of closure. The push and pull of following your heart, the unanswered questions from your past – I absolutely loved this book and give it five stars! A must read.

I’m hoping to continue my reading obsession into August and pray that it’s another slam dunk month!
