May Reads

June 2, 2015 in books

I didn’t get to read quite as much as I would’ve liked to this month, but I’m still pretty happy with my choices. They were two great reads and neither of them disappointed in any way!

Fallen by Lauren Kate
I actually “read” this book by listening to it on audio on my commute to work. I learned that audiobooks are the jam – seriously – and that it really helps pass the time when you’re commuting over an hour and a half (one way) to work! I thoroughly enjoyed this book although I had concerns going into it. I had read multiple reviews that it was too angsty and forbidden and reminded readers of Twilight. I, however, did not find this to be true at all. I got lost in the life of Lucinda after dealing with a traumatic incident in which she was blamed. I loved, loved, loved the characters and would TOTALLY watch this as a movie. Just sayin’. Read it if you enjoy young adult paranormal fiction.

The Dream Jumper’s Promise by Kim Hornsby

I flew through this book pretty quickly once I got past the first few chapters. It was difficult to keep up with the different “worlds” at first, but it definitely got easier as the book progressed and I ended up really not being able to put this one down! The cover initially drew me in, but Hornsby absolutely delivers on a beautiful story of love and loss. It also was intriguing to read a story about a missing spouse, seeing as that’s exactly what’s happening in parts of Texas after all of the flooding. They’re still searching for people and recovering bodies – so it brought all of that to light for me. It was also completely heartbreaking at the same time, knowing it’s some people’s reality.
