New Year’s 2016 Celebration

January 4, 2016 in family, holiday
Celebrating the New Year is something that I usually don’t get excited or schedule fancy plans for. It’s something that I think about in terms of goals and what I’ve accomplished in the past year and what I look forward to in a New Year – I focus more on the meaning behind it than the celebrating until midnight on the last day of the year to “ring in the New Year”. But it happens, year after year.
And this year was nothing short of fantastic, for an introvert like me anyway. I celebrated with my cousin and her kids by heading out to the light show at Mozart’s on the Lake in Austin on New Year’s Eve – and it was so great! Small crowds, cold weather, family fun, and peppermint hot chocolate…yes please! I’m pretty much a sucker for all things Christmas, which absolutely includes Christmas lights! So heading to a show of Christmas lights was seriously perfection.

Afterwards, we headed back to their house and settled in with some College Bowl games and delicious taco soup – only to be followed by watching New York City’s Rockin’ Eve and sipping on mimosa’s to ring in the New Year!
I honestly struggled a bit to stay up until midnight, and we all headed to bed pretty much immediately after. I think it’s safe to say we were all passed out by 12:30 or 1am haha! #partyyyy
On New Year’s Day, we headed to church and then held our annual New Year’s Parade, complete with floats, costumes, presentations, and judging. The girls went all out this year, even if it was a little last minute haha. We had 2015 inventions and then a production on 2015’s trash TV by Caitlyn Jenner. I honestly hadn’t laughed so hard in I don’t know how long! They were so great, and they even had a pretty sweet setup for us “judges”.

We then spent the rest of the afternoon wasting time with a new game we found in the Apple App Store – Psych! It’s seriously a fun game and is the digital version of the board game Balderdash. If you have a room full of people and want to laugh and learn, download this app! You won’t be sorry.
Overall, ringing in the New Year was pretty fantastic this year, and I couldn’t be more thankful for my cousins having me over! It was so nice to spend some much needed and overdue time with them. It’s always so fun!

What did you do to bring in the New Year?
