Don’t ask me why, but I’ve always had a weird fascination with New York City. I don’t know if it’s the hustle and bustle, the hype, or the “massiveness” that is NYC, but I’ve wanted to go for as long as I can remember! And last month, I was able to cross it off of my bucket list!
That’s right, last month before Christmas, Cory and I headed to THE BIG APPLE!
We were already in Pennsylvania visiting with Cory’s family for Christmas and loving every single second of vacation, but honestly, I couldn’t get my mind off of the fact that we were seriously going to New York City!!
Although it was a quick trip, it was one that I will never forget – ever. We left early on Sunday morning and after several hours, a bit of crazy traffic, and an impatient driver (*cough* Cory *cough*), we finally made it to our hotel. Our room wasn’t ready (as we figured), so we checked our luggage and then WE MET KARLA from Life in Light Blue! Karla and I have known each other through blogging for several years and we’ve only ever talked via email and text message, so it was super exciting to be able to FINALLY meet her and have her be our tour guide while downtown NYC! We have so much in common and have been there for each other at our lowest of lows (see: both of our husbands left us in the same year and we’ve gotten divorced), and I never thought you could feel so close to someone that you had never met! That is, until December 6, 2016 :).
We walked through Central Park, down 5th avenue, checked out Rockefeller Center and the infamous tree, and after a few hours parted ways. Karla and Charlie had to work the next morning (Monday) and needed to head back home. It honestly worked out perfectly! We were able to spend some time with them and experience NYC through their eyes, and then we also got time to ourselves and do our own exploring. It was SO FUN and such an amazing experience!
We went back to the hotel for a while, checked in, rested up (y’all, it’s NYC which means lots of walking…holy wow), and then got ready to head back out at night to experience some NYC night life, which really just means that I got to experience my very first horse drawn carriage ride in Central Park at night with a man I love oh so dearly! I was in heaven!! I kind of still am just thinking about it, to be honest. *sigh* We hit up times square, saw the tree at night, enjoyed strolling downtown Manhattan and taking in all of the Christmas decorations, and really soaked up quality time together.
The next morning, Cory and I headed out in search of breakfast and then hit up a gift shop. I was IN LOVE! Haha. I really had to reign myself in and not buy all the things! Obsessed is an understatement when I talk about my love of NYC. And after some shopping, we slowly made our way back to our hotel, took a selfie, and then made the 5 hour drive back to Cory’s parents’ house.
It was a dream come true and I am so unbelievably blessed for this trip. I got to meet one of my favorite bloggers and good friends after years of digital communication, I got to see NYC, and I got to do it my way – slow paced, taking it all in, with the man I love. Cory was seriously great and was down for anything and everything I wanted to do without complaining! He was such a trooper and I am so thankful to have him as a traveling companion. Seriously a wonderful trip and vacation! I can’t suggest visiting NYC at Christmas any more. 🙂 I’m in love.
Oh, and sorry about the photo overload! Wait, no I’m not. At all. I’m seriously in love with every single photo and will cherish them always!
