This week has been absolutely crazy. Seriously. I left for work on Monday morning and haven’t been back home since! And here it is, Thursday. Monday just really wasn’t a good day for me – it was exhausting and very chaotic. And at the end of the day, I really couldn’t even fathom the thought of driving home for two hours in traffic. So, I stayed with my sister that night…and every night since then this week. I dog sat for her on Tuesday and enjoyed some real me time (in full disclosure, I took a two-hour nap. yep). And then yesterday happened, and the culprit for that overnight stay: Tropical Storm Bill.
First of all, I had to wade through at least a foot of water while carrying my shoes and hiking up my pant legs just to get through the parking lot to my car from the office yesterday. Holy what?! That hasn’t happened in the three years I’ve worked there. It was crazy. And then, I pulled up the radar. Umm, I’d be meeting a huge thunderstorm on my way home, and ain’t nobody got time (or patience) for rush hour traffic in a huge thunderstorm. I also didn’t feel very safe about it, so another night at my sister’s was in store. She’s been a huge blessing this week (and every week…) by letting me crash at her place. But it’s also kind of made me feel homeless…ha! From borrowing clothes and shower stuff and hair products…I’m super thankful but am hopeful that I can actually head home tonight. Or to Cory’s. 😉
Although Tropical Storm Bill has downgraded to a Tropical Depression, he’s still causing major damage. Texas has seen so much rain in the past month that what he’s adding is just causing the rivers and lakes to swell again, resulting in more and more flooding, more and more devastation.
And it’s not over yet. Although most of the major winds and rain have passed Texas, this is the radar as of 7:05 this morning…

Crazy! Today’s forecast for Austin: variable clouds with a couple of showers and a thunderstorm. Yikes. I pray that everyone stays safe and that the first responders are able to safely maneuver the cities. I came across an accident just yesterday afternoon in which a fire truck was blocking the whole side of our road in order to move the car. I was first in line, and they literally cleared the scene in less than 5 minutes. I was amazed! And proud that they are super efficient in what they do. Thanks AFD!
We’re still in a flash flood watch, so we’re not out of the clear yet. I just hope that those who are already trying to rebuild their lives from last month’s flooding are able to stay dry and continue repairing what was damaged. It’s been a crazy wet year! I heard on the radio this morning that we’ve already gotten an inch more than the yearly average so far this year, and it’s only JUNE! Seriously. What the heck is going on with Mother Nature?
