Urbanna, Virginia

July 18, 2016 in life lately, travel

This past weekend had its ups and downs, but we definitely enjoyed it!

We headed out after work on Friday to travel the 7 hours to Urbanna, Virginia – to the BethPage Camp-Resort – to spend the weekend with Cory’s parents and their friends’ while on vacation. For someone that gets carsick easily and thoroughly does NOT enjoy spending more than 2 hours in a car, it went quite well! I talked to my mom on the phone for over an hour about wedding planning, so that definitely helped. And we drove at night, so I definitely slept off and on, thus making the trip seem MUCH quicker than it actually was.
We arrived at the campground at midnight, and this girl was BEAT! Work was unbelievably chaotic on Friday and after putting in a full, crazy work-day, the last thing I wanted to do was be on the road for the rest of the day/night. But, I survived (obviously), and we quickly unloaded the car upon arrival, said our hellos, and went straight to sleep.
Saturday morning, we had breakfast and I met Cory’s parents’ friends that were also camping with them this week. Everyone had different plans, so we parted ways. Some went on a river boat cruise, Cory and his dad took the dogs swimming in the river, and I stressed/planned for our wedding for a few hours. Y’all, planning a wedding is tough stuff! Even if you’ve done it before, it doesn’t make it the second, third, fourth, fifth, or sixth time any easier! You still have to go through the motions and check every box, including being a messenger for both families. Long story short, tears were shed, stress was had, bridesmaid dresses were tried on, dresses were purchased (not mine, sadly), and plans were made. And ultimately, it’s all working out for the best and everyone is happy (I hope!) and life is good.
After Cory and his dad returned, they gave all four dogs a bath, and then the four of us headed out to the waterpark that was mayyyybe 50 yards across the street! I’m not much for amusement parks and rollercoasters, but give me a waterpark and I am on cloud 9! I love water and pools and water slides, and this resort’s did not disappoint! They had a normal pool, an adult only pool, a kiddie pool, an entertainment pool with basketball goals and lily pad crossing, and three water slides! One slide was a “fast” slide and jetted straight down – totally not my thing, but I did try it once! And once was definitely enough, ha! Then there was a “toilet bowl” slide in which the first part is an enclosed tube that shoots you out into a giant toilet-bowl shaped thing and you make a round or two (or three) before dropping down into an 8-foot deep small pool. And finally, there was a normal enclosed, winding slide that was definitely more my speed. However, the one time I tried it, I ended up slamming my foot into the bottom of the pool where the slide ended (it was only 3 feet deep) and wasn’t interested in doing it again – so I didn’t. My foot STILL hurts today! And every one of us that went on that slide ended up with an injury! Cory scraped his back pretty badly and has a huge brush burn on his shoulder!
The toilet bowl slide was seriously the best! I can’t even remember how many times we went down that one. It was so fun! After some slide action, we headed over to the main pool. There was a beach ball we decided to play with and enjoyed countless hours passing it around! We laughed so hard, and it was seriously much needed fun. I haven’t just let loose like that in I don’t know how long!
After a while, it was time to head back to camp to get ready for supper – deep fried turkey (yum!), corn, mashed potatoes, gravy, and stuffing. Everything was so good!! And after dinner, I bet you can’t guess what we did. WE WENT BACK TO THE WATERPARK! But not before Cory decided to douse me with a COLD bottle of water. I wasn’t super happy about it, but it did feel good on a hot day! 🙂 And he’s lucky I was wearing my swimsuit…and that I love him.
The water park is open until 10pm and they had a DJ there that night with lights and everything. It was a blast! We went down the slides a few times, but the lines were ridiculously long. So we ended up in the adult only pool for a while. That is, until the lifeguards pulled the plug on the whole park. Apparently there was lighting heading our way, so they shut everything down and closed the park. We headed back to camp and I enjoyed a much-earned shower! And then I indulged in dessert – peach jello with cool whip! I can’t even remember the last time I had jello, but it was the perfect dessert to end a fun night.
After dessert, we all went to sleep. Well, we tried. I was in and out of sleep all night and the dogs couldn’t get comfortable either, I guess. It was just a long night, and I ended up sleeping in. Hey, when on vacation, right?! Ha! We left for South Carolina around noon yesterday after enjoying a delicious breakfast and got home around 8:00pm. The drive wasn’t as bad as I was expecting, so I was absolutely thankful! The dogs did great and slept most of the way, and Cory and I only got annoyed at each other once. I call that a win in my book!

We ended the drive researching our possible wedding song, with Cory rejecting 99% of the songs. We have one contender, so that’s progress I guess! Haha. We got home, finally, unloaded the car, took care of the dogs, and hit the hay. It was a weekend filled with emotions, fun in the sun, and a ton of time in the car. Exhausting, but fun! I’m thankful we went and got to enjoy some time in beautiful Virginia!
