Winter Reading Challenge

October 24, 2014 in books
I am over-the-moon excited about something I came across only yesterday, and it has everything to do with books. I saw Heather’s post about participating in a winter book challenge, and I instantly knew this was something I’d be looking into further. Little did I know that I’d be searching books and creating my list right then and there – that’s how pumped I was about this challenge. So, this winter, I’ll be participating in the Semi-Charmed Winter 2014 Book Challenge

It’s 13 books total, and I’m so excited to start come November 1st!

5 points: Freebie! Read any book that fits the general rules.
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
395 pages

10 points: Read a book written by an author who has published at least 10 books.
Confessions of a Slightly Neurotic Hitwoman by J.B. Lynn
400 pages
10 points: Read a book of short stories.
The Last Girlfriend on Earth: And Other Love Stories by Simon Rich
213 pages
10 points: Read a book with a food (not a drink!) in the title.
How to Eat a Cupcake by Meg Donohue
309 pages
15 points: Read the first book in a series that is new to you.
Almost Forever by Deborah Raney (Hanover Falls #1)
341 pages
15 points: Read a book that was originally written in a language that is not your native language.
The Twin by Gerbrand Bakker (originally written in Dutch)
256 pages
15 points: Read a book written by a local author (either an author from your state if you live in the United States, or in your country if you live somewhere else—note: author must be from where you currently live).
Smart Blondes by Sonia Koso (Texas! and she currently resides in Austin)
259 pages
20 points: Read a “bookish book” (in which books play an important role, e.g. the setting involves a bookstore or library, a major character is an author, or a book that celebrates reading and books).
Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn
260 pages
20 points: Read a book with a direction in the title (e.g. north, south, east, west or any combination of those).
True North by Marie Force
404 pages

25 points: Read a book from a genre you don’t usually read.
Fever Crumb by Philip Reeve(steampunk/sci-fi)
326 pages
25 points: Read a book with a song lyric in the title.
Baby It’s Cold Outside by Addison Fox (song by Frank Loesser)
384 pages
30 points: Read two books with a different meal in each title (e.g. breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper, brunch).
Breakfast at Darcy’s by Ali McNamara
427 pages
The Girls’ Guide to Love and Supper Clubs by Dana Bate
394 pages

I’m pretty excited about this list, as some have been on my TBR (to be read) list for a few years! I’m pretty happy about all of my picks, but I make no absolute guarantee that the list won’t change by the end of this thing on February 28th, 2015. I’m a girl and I sometimes change my mind, it’s my prerogative! 🙂  However, if I do stick to this list, that’s 4,368 pages to read in 120 days! Challenge accepted. I’ll be doing a monthly check-in post to stay accountable to this challenge and to fill you all in on my progress!
So, here’s to a wonderful holiday season full of lots of reading! I couldn’t be more excited if I tried…I’m going for 200 points!
What are you reading this holiday season? Want to join in on this challenge? I’d love to see your list!

So I'm totally borrowing your English translated book! It sounds the most interesting of the ones I've looked at and it's at my library holla! So excited you're doing this challenge too!

The Last Girlfriend on Earth and Other Love Stories is HILARIOUS. Very strange, but truly charming.

Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares is really great too.

Aaahhh, Dash & Lily's Book of Dares was so great. I love David Levithan, and I really love when he writes a book with Rachel Cohn.. They're both so great. Enjoy that one!!
